On February 13th, 2020, the highly anticipated McArthurGlen Designer Outlet opened its doors on the outskirts of Malaga. Aside from being the UK developer’s only venture in Spain, the handsome outdoor mall is also the first designer outlet in Andalusia, offering a complete experience for lovers of exquisite fashion and world-class labels.
- The luxury 30,000 sqm complex is an extension of the long-established Plaza Mayor shopping center and sits right next to MA-20 and MA-21 motorways, close to Malaga Airport.
- Only 38 stores welcomed visitors on the inauguration day, but plans include the opening of 62 more outlets over the next few months.
- Four cafés and restaurants keep visitors fueled and excited in between shopping, but there are many more just a stone’s throw away at Plaza Mayor.
- Other facilities include free Wi-Fi, a children’s playground, electric car charging points, and over 1,500 free parking spaces.
- The Malaga Designer Outlet will be open every day (except Sundays) from 10am to 10pm.
McArthurGlen Malaga is like shopping in a stylish Mediterranean village.
Just like the company’s other destinations (currently, there are 25 spread across 10 countries), the retail facility is styled to resemble a quaint European village, this time with a colorful Mediterranean flair – think charming little squares, old-fashioned street lamps, and low-rise buildings in warm, sunny colors, adorned with arched windows and doorways, wooden shutters, and typical terracotta roof tiles.
Lining the serene open-air shopping alleys you’ll find Spanish and international brands offering discounts of up to 70% throughout the year.
The selection of boutiques is quite impressive, covering everything from designer fashion and cosmetics to sportswear, children’s clothes, and kitchenware. In addition to world-famous brands like Polo Ralph Lauren, Adidas, Karl Lagerfeld, Escada, Scalpers, and Brooks Brothers, the outlet plays host to exquisite Spanish shoe labels such as Camper, Callaghan, and Pikolinos. Streetwear and sneakers enthusiasts can pick from Vans and New Balance, while denim lovers will find their perfect fit at Levi’s, Diesel, and Pepe Jeans.
Come for the shopping, stay for the experience.
While here, take a moment to revel in the Spanish way of life. Benefitting from the city’s sunny and warm year-round climate, the streets are scattered with benches and outdoor terraces that entice you to stop for a coffee or linger over tapas and cold beers in true local fashion.
Colorful umbrellas and sleek parasols provide shade while also adding to the center’s chic aesthetics.
The frequent airplanes flying over the shopping center make for great photo opportunities.
On the first day, one store stood out from the rest, offering patrons cold beer and thin, freshly cut slices of Jamon Iberico.
The main plaza houses a nice pavement fountain and Starbucks café with wraparound outdoor seats.
Elsewhere, alleys are lined with palm trees and flower pots, giving the whole place a traditional Mediterranean vibe.
Shoppers pass seamlessly from the adjacent Plaza Mayor through a lovely entrance decorated with a living vertical garden.
